Wow, what a beautiful walk down memory lane! I frequently went to the Garret during high school (graduated Fairfax High in 1963) and after, and I remember the wonderful Terrea Lea music, the warmth of the fireplace, and the delicious cappucinos. Thanks for the memories!

About 1961, I fell in love with Terrea's music, her sound, and the wonderfully empathic feelings at the Garret: a truly unique experience - far more profound than other places. With Terrea, I recorded, produced, edited and masterer her album, "At the Garret circa 1961. I may still have the masters (not certain). Thank you, Terrea, for your wonder..... I miss those times.

Terrea, this is your relative Judy Kay Coons from Missouri. Have wondered about you for years and just came on this web site. How wonderful, I'm thrilled. Just ordered the new CD and wish you would have them rerecord Terrea Lea at The Garrett. I have the record but you know how old it is and it is real scratchy. Would love to hear from you.

I'm ecstatic that there is info about the Garret and Terrea Lea. I have such incredible memories. My friend Steffi and I used to go there all the time. I'm grateful that someone has put together a CD but I wish there were more, as many of the songs I remember are singing are not there. If anyone as any of her records for sale, please let me know. Tx.

I can hardly believe my good fortune in finding this website. I spent many, many evenings at the Garrett and tried to find out if there were any recordings several years ago. Thank you for putting together this site. Terrea was the best.....she was the first person to introduce me to folk music and I loved listening to her and drinking frosted mochas!

Jerry: It's a great site! and the downloadable samples just made my day. I'll be ordering a CD (or tape,) later today.

Don't forget the Folksong SIG meeting on April 9th, it'll be at my home in Sunland. The announcement will be in L A Mentary.

Pax.

Hello ... <tap><tap> ... is this thing on?

This is to apologize for the intermittent to non-existent service of the past few weeks that began after someone broke into and vandalized our server. Efforts to cure the problems have resulted in completely rebuilding and ugrading the server hardware from scratch as well as upgrading and installing a new operating system.

At this time, the server has been up for nearly a full day, without crashing, for the first time in weeks, so it looks as if the problems are finally solved and performance has been significantly improved. I certainly hope so.

Thank you all for your patience during this difficult time.

I spent many hours at the Garret ca. 1959-63. At one point, I managed a group that made one appearance at the Garret, "The Bellwethers". It was great time. I spent countless hours in the many coffee houses around Los Angeles. I sat and listened to Hoyt Axton at the Satyr, Terra Lea at the Garret on Fairfax, visited McCabe's in Hollywood, made frequent trips to The Ash Grove and lounged at the Trident on Melrose. Thanks for this bit of memorabilia.

I'm Frans sister and happened to be looking on the internet for something else. I'm not sure why you are looking for my sister or how old the search is, but it was weird seeing it on the internet. My brother is a cantor but contacting him at this time would not be good. Fran passed away last week. Thank you for your understanding.

You may contact me.

Sincerely,

Kama Fordis/Dyche

My mother (Jo Mapes), brother, sister and I lived behind the garret for a while so long ago. I can remember Bud and Travis in particular..... amazing time.

Hi,

This is Art Kunkin, Founding Publisher and Editor of The Los Angeles Free Press, 1964 to 2000. I used to stop by The Garret occasionally. I found your web site because I was surfing the web for The Blue Grotto Coffee House and John Hammond, who used to read Tarot Cards at the Blue Grotto.

(If anyone knows where John is now -- November 2004 -- please email me).

I think this labor of love web site is wonderful. Thank you for bringing back some good memories. Art

We're number one!

"Terrea Lea, By Popular Demand" is currently at the top of Cafe Press' list of CDs in the Folk and Acoustic genre. We're even number two in the Rock listings because Cafe Press considers Folk to be a subgenre of Rock. Go figure.

You can help keep us there by going to SPAM://www.cafepress.com/thegarretshop or clicking on Record Store on the menu at left and ordering a copy. (That's very important. You should do it right now, so you don't forget.)

Thanks, everyone!

Were back!

Apologies for the interruption in service and any rude messages. The kryptonians server was vandalized by hackers over the weekend and the system software had to be reinstalled and reconfigured from scratch.

All praise to our unpaid sysadmin, Gene Turnbow, for dedicating what little spare time he had to getting the Web site up and running far sooner than I had any right to expect.

Praise him with great praise!
